Coaching Structure Announcement

Coaching Structure Announcement
30 Aug 2023

Head Coach Appointed

Following the AGM on 30th November, we are pleased to announce that we are moving ahead and implementing a new official coaching structure that was proposed by Rob Hayto & Nick Bailey at the AGM following a review of our coaching structure within the club. This was put to those in attendance at the AGM and passed unanimously.

Whilst we are implementing this, it is stressed that this is in no way to remove anyone who has coached previously or still is, their work is invaluable and will continue to be. It is imperative that we look after the colts and anyone wishing to give back to the club and help coach the future of the club is greatly appreciated and welcomed, the colts have always been and will continue to be the most important part of the club. Thanks to the hard work and time dedicated by the likes of Bob Shortman, Keith Goodman, Alastair Fergus, Eddie Lawrence & Andrew Shepherd, we are enjoying success and winning Premier League titles.

The new positions that have been created are:

- Men’s Head Coach
- Men’s Assistant Head Coach

- Ladies/Willow’s Head Coach

The responsibilities that fall within these roles are:

- Design coaching programmes for adults and colts
- Relay coaching programmes to the coaches to implement to colts/adults
- Ensure all training sessions are appropriately staffed with coaches
- Be a focal point for any queries & enquiries from colt’s parents, new & existing
- Assist with admin / record collecting

We are delighted to announce that James Clifford has been appointed as Men’s Head Coach, James is a home-grown talent & Vice Captain for the 1st XI. He is also a level 3 coach working for Essex County Cricket Club as the County’s Talent Pathway Manager.

He will be joined by Ben Waring as Assistant Head Coach, Ben joined the club in 2017 and is a senior player for the 1st X1, he is employed by Hertfordshire County Cricket Club as Performance Lead.

Leading the Ladies & Willows section will be Andrew Shepherd as Head Coach.

We are pleased to announce that age group coaches for the 2022 season are as follows:

All Stars (Age 5-8): Nick Bailey
U11’s: Abdul Baig & Jordan Campion
U13’s: Ed Cole
U15’s: Liam Keaney

Willows:

All Stars (Age 5-8): Nick Bailey

U11’s: Andrew Shepherd
U13’s: Richard Goodey
U15s: Ian Farmer
Women’s Team: Matt Spinks

Liam, Jordan, Ed & Abdul have all been enrolled in coaching courses in the new year.

We firmly believe that whilst we already have an excellent structure in place with fantastic coaches, this new structure will move some of the accountability onto younger senior players to help drive the coaching forward and continue the excellent work already done.

If anyone is interested in helping with Coaching, please contact James Clifford, Nick Bailey or Rob Hayto.

We trust that you will all congratulate and support James, Ben & Andrew in their new roles and should anyone have any questions or queries regarding the new structure, please get in touch.

Best Wishes,

Chelmsford CC Committee
